Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tennessee, was established during World War I and serves as the home of Navy Personnel Command and the Bureau of Naval Personnel. Naval Air Station Memphis Established
Naval Air Station Memphis was established in 1917 near Millington, Tennessee, as one of the earliest naval aviation training facilities in the country. During WWII it became one of the largest naval air training stations in the world, training thousands of aviators.

Becomes Primary Navy Technical Training Center
NAS Memphis was designated a primary Navy technical and aviation training center in the postwar era, hosting aviation mechanic and electronics schools alongside flight training operations. The installation trained the technical workforce that supported naval aviation through the Cold War.
1998
Redesignated NSA Mid-South; Navy Personnel Command Moves Here
The installation was redesignated Naval Support Activity Mid-South in 1998 following the closure of NAS Memphis as a flying installation. It became the headquarters of the Navy Personnel Command (now MyNavy HR), consolidating Navy-wide personnel management at Millington, Tennessee.

Sailors, Marines, and civilians arriving at Naval Support Activity Mid-South report to their gaining command during duty hours. NSA Mid-South in Millington, Tennessee is the home of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS), Navy Personnel Command (NPC), and numerous defense agency tenants. The command administrative office initiates check-in and coordinates all in-processing appointments.
In-processing covers PSD for pay and records, medical enrollment at the Naval Health Clinic Mid-South, housing coordination, and base orientation. The FFSC at (901) 874-5738 coordinates the mandatory Newcomers Orientation covering Mid-South community resources and the greater Memphis, Tennessee area.
