NSA Panama City History
Naval Support Activity Panama City in Florida is home to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division, which specializes in mine warfare, naval special warfare support, diving and salvage, and amphibious systems. NSA Panama City is home to Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Panama City — the Navy’s primary center for underwater systems, diving technology, and mine warfare research. The population here skews toward engineers, scientists, Navy divers, and EOD-adjacent specialties; it’s a technical command with a distinct culture. Report to the Customer Service Desk in Building 110 in duty uniform for initial check-in. Contact your sponsor before arrival to get a welcome aboard package and understand your unit’s specific in-processing sequence.
The Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) at (850) 235-5800 handles relocation support and settling-in services. For housing, call the Housing Office at (850) 234-4248 early in the process — on-base quarters are available but limited. Most personnel end up in Panama City Beach or Panama City proper, both within an easy commute.
The surrounding area is one of the better-kept quality-of-life secrets at a small Navy installation. The Emerald Coast beaches are genuinely beautiful, the cost of living is low by military standards, and the community is human in size. People who get stationed here often leave wishing they’d stayed longer.
