Brooke Army Medical Center History

Named AfterBrigadier General Roger Brooke

Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, was established in 1938 and has grown into the Department of Defense's largest inpatient medical facility. BAMC is internationally renowned for its burn treatment center and combat casualty care, particularly for its role treating severely wounded service members from Iraq and Afghanistan. It also houses the Center for the Intrepid, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility. BAMC serves a massive beneficiary population across south-central Texas and remains at the forefront of military medicine and trauma research.

Report to Building 367 where Finance, Personnel, Housing, Security, Vehicle Registration, and Transportation are centralized. Bring your orders, medical and dental records, leave form (DA-31), and payroll documents. Personnel in-processing begins at 0720. If arriving after hours, the Fort Sam Houston guest facility is at Building 3625. The Army Housing emergency line is available 24/7 at (210) 225-5564.

JBSA offers a monthly virtual Welcome orientation on the 4th Tuesday at 0800 CST covering installation resources, housing, schools, and childcare. Officers sign in at their unit headquarters; enlisted soldiers report to their orderly room. Army Community Service (ACS) is at Building 2797, Stanley Road, and provides relocation support and lending closet services.

The Housing Office is at Building 3625, (210) 357-2705, open 24/7/365 for housing inquiries. Privatized Army Housing (Hunt Military Communities) manages on-base family housing.
