1917

Camp Lee Established for WWI Training

Camp Lee was established near Petersburg, Virginia, during World War I to train soldiers for the American Expeditionary Forces. Named after Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, the camp processed hundreds of thousands of soldiers through military training before deployment to France with the AEF.

1941

Reactivated and Expanded for World War II

Fort Lee was reactivated as a major training installation for World War II. The Quartermaster Corps extensively used the installation to train supply, logistics, and field services soldiers essential to sustaining global military operations across multiple theaters.

1950

Quartermaster Center and School Established

The Quartermaster Center and School relocated to Fort Lee, formally establishing the installation as "The Home of the Quartermaster Corps." Fort Lee became the center for Army logistics, supply chain management, and field services training, doctrine, and branch heritage.

1990

Combined Arms Support Command Established

Fort Lee's logistics mission expanded with the establishment of the Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM), unifying the Army's sustainment schools and training institutions under one headquarters. CASCOM cemented Fort Lee's role as the Army's center of excellence for sustainment operations.

2023

Renamed Fort Gregg-Adams

Fort Lee was redesignated Fort Gregg-Adams on April 28, 2023, honoring two Army trailblazers: General Arthur Gregg, the first Black four-star general in Army logistics history, and Lt. Col. Charity Adams, the first Black woman commissioned as an officer in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.

The installation draws families into the Richmond-Petersburg metro area, with options ranging from the military-town feel of Prince George County to the southern Richmond suburbs of Chesterfield County.
