Where To Live
Fort Meade sits in Anne Arundel County between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. — one of the most strategically positioned military installations in the country. The NSA is headquartered here, and the post attracts a mix of military and intelligence community families. Housing demand is high and prices reflect the competitive DC-Baltimore corridor. The MARC train line at Odenton provides car-free commuting options.
Odenton
Suburban
Odenton is the most popular community for Fort Meade families and one of the best-positioned military communities on the East Coast. It sits directly adjacent to the base in Anne Arundel County with MARC commuter rail access to both Baltimore and Washington DC, excellent schools, good retail, and a range of housing options. Odenton has grown substantially in recent years and is genuinely one of the best assignments in the military from a quality-of-life standpoint.

Laurel straddles the Prince George's and Howard County lines and offers a more affordable alternative to Odenton with good access to Fort Meade. It's a mid-size suburban city with a diverse community, solid amenities, and a strategic location between DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. Military families choosing Laurel typically get more space for their BAH while staying within a manageable commute.
