Named AfterGeneral Bernard Adolph Schriever
Schriever Air Force Base near Colorado Springs, Colorado, was established in 1985 and redesignated as Schriever Space Force Base. Named after General Bernard Schriever, the father of the Air Force's ballistic missile and military space program, it is home to the 2nd Space Operations Squadron and other units that operate GPS satellites and other critical military space systems. The base is a nerve center for space operations that the entire military relies upon for navigation, timing, and communications.

1983
Construction Begins on Falcon Air Force Station
Construction began May 17, 1983, on what was originally known as Falcon Air Force Station, after defense officials approved plans in September 1979 to develop a military installation to house a new Combined Space Operations Center.
1985
2nd Space Wing Activated
The base's first host unit, the 2nd Space Wing, activated on July 8, 1985. The wing moved onto the new installation after a dedication ceremony in September 1985, beginning continuous space operations from the Colorado Springs area.
1988
Falcon AFS Becomes Falcon Air Force Base
Due to an increased mission and a new Air Force policy, Falcon Air Force Station was redesignated Falcon Air Force Base on June 13, 1988, reflecting its growing operational importance in the satellite control and space operations enterprise.
1992
50th Space Wing Activated
Air Force Space Command activated the 50th Space Wing at Falcon AFB on January 30, 1992, absorbing the personnel, equipment, and missions of the inactivated 2nd Space Wing. The 50th SW preserved the heritage of the 50th Tactical Fighter Wing at Hahn Air Base, Germany.
1998
Base Renamed for General Bernard Schriever
On June 5, 1998, the Air Force renamed Falcon AFB in honor of General Bernard A. Schriever, the father of the Air Force ballistic missile and military space program. Schriever AFB became the only Air Force base at that time named for a living person.

Upon arrival at Schriever Space Force Base, report to the Military Personnel Flight (50th Force Support Squadron) at 210 Falcon Parkway. Phone: (719) 567-5900. The MPF serves as the primary in-processing center. For after-hours arrivals, contact your sponsor in advance to arrange on-base temporary lodging — the TLF is shared with Peterson SFB and space is limited.
The Housing Management Office is at 300 Hartinger Circle, (719) 567-2585. Privatized family housing is managed by Tierra Vista Communities at (719) 683-3660. Request a sponsor through the MPF at least 90 days prior to arrival to facilitate arrival coordination.
The Airman and Family Readiness Center (A&FRC) hosts Right Start orientation — a 3.5-hour session typically held every third Wednesday — covering installation resources, benefits, and community information. Visit schriever.spaceforce.mil for current A&FRC scheduling.
