Los Angeles AFB History
Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo, California, was established in 1954 as the headquarters for the Air Force's space and missile systems acquisition programs. Redesignated as Los Angeles Space Force Base under the U.S. Space Force, it houses the Space Systems Command, which manages the development and acquisition of military satellite systems, launch services, and ground control networks. Despite its small physical footprint, it is one of the most important installations in the defense space enterprise. The base oversees tens of billions of dollars in space system contracts annually.
