Got orders to Fort Gordon? Located in Augusta, Georgia, the state's second oldest and second largest city, you'll find lots of southern charm, historical destinations, and beautiful natural landscapes. Stay on base for easy access to horseback riding, a sportsman's complex, water fun, and more. Nearby Augusta has a variety of dining options that will please even the pickiest foodie. Try local cuisine like oyster Rockefeller at Beamey's at the River, or get your sugar fix at the Bull Weevil Cafe and Sweetery. When the weather's nice, get outside. Phenazie Swamp Nature Park, Laqueduct Park, and Riverwalk Augusta offer great trails for you and your four-legged friends, and plenty of local patios are dog-friendly, too. Ready for a day trip? Columbia, South Carolina, is one hour away and offers a children's museum and Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. The Georgia Aquarium is two and a half hours away in Atlanta, and Savannah, Georgia, is just two hours away, offering Tybee Island and ghost tours. All are worth the drive for a weekend adventure. Fort Gordon is a great place to call home, with much to offer the whole family. You'll find more to explore as your time here goes on.
